August’s new releases will bring some hotly-anticipated albums and some releases from acts you haven’t heard from in a while.
Meghan Trainor – Treat Myself
Remember her? She’s about to release her newest album, Treat Myself. She told Entertainment Tonight that her family sings on the whole album, and it’s really special. Her father even plays the piano on one of the tracks. The follow-up to her 2016 album Thank You, Treat Myself arrives August 31.
Mitski – Be the Cowboy
Mitski lo-fi rock prowess continues with her new album, Be the Cowboy. We wrote about Mitski before here and listening to her, it’s easy to see why she strikes a chord. Her soaring melodic voice coupled with biting or bitter lyrics is a irresistible combination. The album single ‘Geyser” was already released along with a lonesome track called “Nobody.” Be the Cowboy arrives August 17.
Muncie Girls – Fixed Ideals
Following the pattern of their debut album, From Caplan To Belsize, British punk group Muncie Girls has given their sophomore release a Sylvia Plath-inspired title, this one from the poem “Sonnet: to Eva.” The album releases August 31.
Alice in Chains – Rainer Fog
It’s been 5 years since Alice in Chains put out a new album but now they’re back with Rainer Fog. The title is a homage to Seattle, Washington, where the group was formed. Rainer Fog is the first album they have recorded in Seattle in 22 years and they partially recorded it in the same studio as their 1995 self-titled album. “The One You Know” and “So Far Under” are the two tracks that have been released from the album and it arrives August 24.
Interpol – Marauder
Marauder is the newest release from Interpol who haven’t released an album since 2014. It’s another take on their atmospheric indie rock according to music insiders who heard it. While on a tour for the anniversary of their debut Turn off the Bright Lights, Interpol gave concert goers a peek at the song “Real Life” during their encore and now fans want more. They don’t have to wait much longer as the album is out August 24.
Jason Mraz – Know
The singer-songwriter Jason Mraz just came off a stint on Broadway in the musical Waitress and is now returning to the airwaves with a new album. The album, Know, is the latest studio album since 2014. Know has its first single, “Have it All,” a track inspired by the singer’s visit to Myanmar. On August 7, select movie theatres will share a documentary Jason Mraz—Have It All the Movie to tell the story of the song, then the album will release 3 days later on August 10.
Ariana Grande – Sweetener
Ariana Grande worked with Pharrell for her newest album and experienced the Manchester attack in the middle of its production. The singles “No Tears Left to Cry” and “God is a Woman” have already been released. The album arrives August 17.
Nicki Minaj – Queen
Though the reviews haven’t been kind — Forbes said it “reeked of desperation” — fans are still waiting to hear the album Queen by Nicki Minaj. Queen was supposed to be released in June but it was pushed backed until August.
