Ariana Grande is fresh from the release of her single “One Last Time.” However, after her Grammy performance of “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart,” many got excited of the range Grande exhibited live. The song is one true testament to Grande’s potential longevity in the industry. Like all the true divas that came before her, Grande’s greatest advantage is her undeniable vocal prowess.

In “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart,” Grande did not only prove how high her notes can be, but she also managed to show that she is capable of showing an ample amount of emotion in her performance. My Everything is loaded with heavy pop beats, but “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” stands out from the pack as a great ballad from Grande’s song list. It’s the believability and heartache in Grande’s performance that made the ballad work. Geared with substantial progression and no over-singing, the song only proves how far Grande is from her contemporaries.

Being compared to Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera is one thing, but being able to stand on her own is the true important test Grande succeeded to surpass. Her soft but powerful vocal capability is widely displayed all throughout “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart.” Her embellishments are just enough. She did not use the excessive oohs and aahs that can be a major distraction in a ballad. She only sang her way using the purity of her voice, which gives way for her heart to shine through.

Most of Grande’s hits are heavy pop beats. Not that there is any setback in that. “Baby I” and “The Way” are good enough hits. Her high profile collaborations like “Love Me Harder,” “Bang Bang,” and “Get On Your Knees” are top-notchers in their own right. However, what Grande needs right now is a big power ballad that will ultimately position her as a diva in the mold of her predecessors.  It is only by coming up with a technically challenging song that is devoid of any studio enhancers can someone like Grande be canonized in this cruel industry. “Just a Little Bit of Your Heart” may be the song Grande needs to fulfill this difficult task.
