Number Eight: Drummer Matt Helders Leaves Messages for His Fans
For shows, Helders often writes out messages on his drumkit in electrical tape instead of the band’s logo. One interesting message he’s put on his kit has been “The Frunk Might Fracture Your Nose.”
Number Seven: Arctic Monkeys Founding Member Jamie Cook Is Seriously Into Soccer
Cook loves soccer – or football, depending on where you are – so much that he still plays for his local team! The team is called Packhorse FC.
Number Six: Helders Is a Bionic Drummer
Drummer Matt Helders got into an accident when he was boxing as part of a workout. His injuries were so serious that he now has a metal plate in his left arm and sometimes calls himself a bionic drummer.
Number Five: The Name for Their Debut Albums Isn’t Original
It’s true! The Arctic Monkeys’ debut album, titled Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, is actually a quote. The quote comes from an Alan Sillitoe novel titled Saturday Night And Sunday Morning.
Number Four: Helders Draws Inspiration From Led Zeppelin
In fact, Helders has said that John Bonham – Led Zeppelin’s late drummer – is his biggest inspiration. He said that Bonham inspires him to play drums and is his biggest hero.
Number Three: Alex Turner Loves Bourbon
Lead singer Alex Turner has said that his drink of choice is Bulleit bourbon. What a great way to warm up in cold weather!
Number Two: One of Their Most Famous Songs Alludes to Duran Duran
The Arctic Monkeys song titled “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” has a lyric that goes “Your name isn’t Rio / But I don’t care for sand.” The lyric is actually a reference to Duran Duran’s song titled “Rio.”
